Cat's Eye Granite slab

About Eye

Cat's Eye Granite is quarried in Karnataka's central granite belt, where specific Precambrian intrusives produce the characteristic combination of warm feldspar tones and orbicular mineral clustering. The stone is processed at established Karnataka units and exported as gangsaw slabs and calibrated tiles. It has a consistent market in decorative interior and luxury countertop applications. FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva. Origin and specifications verified by Gemarix.

Geological Profile

Density ~2.68 g/cm³
Water Absorption <0.25%
Compressive Strength ~178 MPa
Mohs Hardness 6 – 7

Cat's Eye is a medium-to-coarse grained granite with elevated potassium feldspar content, quartz, plagioclase, biotite, and hornblende. The distinctive eye-like clusters are composed of concentric alternating zones of feldspar and dark biotite-hornblende minerals — a localised orbicular texture produced during crystallisation. The warm golden-brown matrix colour results from iron-bearing potassium feldspar. The moderate porosity of the stone warrants sealing for wet and food-contact applications.

Color & Character

Cat's Eye Granite presents a warm golden-brown to amber matrix scattered with distinctive oval or almond-shaped mineral clusters that give the stone its name. These eye-shaped features — formed by concentric rings of light feldspar and dark hornblende — vary in size and are distributed across the slab surface without a fixed direction. The overall composition is warm and richly textured, with polished surfaces amplifying the contrast between the golden matrix and the darker mineral eyes. No two slabs carry exactly the same distribution of these features.

Care & Maintenance

Cat's Eye Granite should be sealed with an impregnating sealer at installation and re-sealed annually in kitchen and bathroom use. The warm golden matrix can highlight oil stains if left unsealed. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and remove spills promptly. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaning products. Polished surfaces maintain their colour depth and finish under normal conditions.
