South Indian Granite

Flash Blue Granite.

Flash Blue Granite is a deep blue-grey stone from Andhra Pradesh distinguished by a striking flash iridescence across its dark surface — a refined, less dramatic alternative to full labradorescent Blue Pearl that suits contemporary luxury interiors.

Flash Blue Granite slab

About Blue

Flash Blue Granite is quarried in Andhra Pradesh's granite belt, within the Eastern Ghats geological zone, where mafic intrusives produce the dark blue-grey matrix and characteristic iridescent flash of the stone. Block selection prioritises consistent shimmer character and colour depth before processing to gangsaw slabs and calibrated tiles for export. FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva. Origin and specifications verified by Gemarix.

Geological Profile

Density ~2.71 g/cm³
Water Absorption <0.20%
Compressive Strength ~188 MPa
Mohs Hardness 6 – 7

Flash Blue is a medium-to-coarse grained mafic granitoid dominated by plagioclase feldspar with secondary hornblende, pyroxene, and ilmenite. The blue-grey matrix results from the combination of dark hornblende-pyroxene and lighter plagioclase phases, while the flash iridescence originates from oriented feldspar cleavage planes that reflect light at specific angles. The effect is less pervasive than full labradorescence but appears as vivid flashes of blue-grey light across the stone surface when the viewing angle changes. The low porosity gives the stone good stain resistance.

Color & Character

Flash Blue Granite presents a deep blue-grey to charcoal matrix with a distributed iridescent flash that appears as sudden, planar blue-grey light reflections across the stone surface when the viewing angle shifts. Unlike fully labradorescent stones where the shimmer is omnipresent, the flash in Flash Blue appears and disappears with movement — creating a more subtle, animated quality. The dark ground gives depth and sophistication, while the iridescent flashes add visual interest without overwhelming the space. The stone has a composed, contemporary character.

Care & Maintenance

Flash Blue Granite should be sealed with an impregnating sealer at installation and re-sealed every 18 months in kitchen and bathroom applications. The dark surface can show water marks on polished finishes; dry promptly after cleaning. Use pH-neutral stone cleaner and avoid abrasive products that could micro-scratch the polished feldspar surface and reduce the iridescent flash. The stone's shimmer character is stable and does not diminish with normal use.
