South Indian Granite

Indian Juparana Granite.

Indian Juparana Granite from Karnataka is a classic member of the Juparana granite family — a warm, flowing composition of pink, cream, and grey mineral zones that creates one of the most animated and characterful natural stone surfaces in the Indian granite range.

About Juparana

Indian Juparana Granite is quarried in Karnataka's Dharwar Craton, within the same geological zone that produces the entire Juparana family of richly patterned granites. The characteristic flowing pattern is a primary feature of this geological formation — produced by multiphase magmatic crystallisation that segregated iron-bearing pink feldspar from lighter and darker mineral phases. The stone has been in export production for over two decades. FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva. Origin and specifications verified by Gemarix.

Geological Profile

Density ~2.64 g/cm³
Water Absorption <0.25%
Compressive Strength ~170 MPa
Mohs Hardness 6 – 7

Indian Juparana is a coarse-grained granite with pink to salmon potassium feldspar, quartz, white plagioclase, biotite, and hornblende. The distinctive flowing pattern reflects primary magmatic layering — compositional zones of feldspar-rich and dark-mineral-rich material that record the movement of the original granitic magma during crystallisation. The pink feldspar colour derives from iron-manganese content in the orthoclase crystal structure. The stone has moderate porosity and should be sealed for food-contact and wet-area use.

Color & Character

Indian Juparana Granite presents a flowing composition of warm pink to rose-grey feldspar zones, cream-white quartz-plagioclase bodies, and dark grey hornblende-biotite clusters arranged in an organic, wave-like pattern across the slab. The movement is more pronounced than in static-patterned granites, giving the stone an almost liquid, painterly quality. Each slab differs in the specific arrangement of its colour zones — no two pieces are identical. Polished surfaces intensify the contrast between the warm pink zones, the white bodies, and the dark clusters.

Care & Maintenance

Indian Juparana Granite should be sealed with an impregnating sealer at installation and re-sealed every 12 months in kitchen and bathroom use. The warm pink tones can be susceptible to oil staining; prompt spill removal is recommended. Clean with pH-neutral stone cleaner. Avoid acidic products, bleach, and abrasive cleaners. Polished surfaces are more stain resistant than honed finishes.
