About Black

Khammam Black Granite is quarried from the Khammam district of Telangana, within the Eastern Ghats geological belt, where mafic Precambrian intrusives produce the dense, uniform black matrix. Khammam district is a well-established black granite production zone and has supplied export-grade black stone to international markets for several decades. The stone is processed to gangsaw slabs and calibrated tiles at Telangana and Andhra Pradesh units. FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva. Origin and specifications verified by Gemarix.

Geological Profile

Density ~2.98 g/cm³
Water Absorption <0.08%
Compressive Strength ~215 MPa
Mohs Hardness 6 – 7

Khammam Black is a fine-to-medium grained mafic gabbro to dolerite dominated by augite pyroxene, labradorite plagioclase feldspar, hornblende, and accessory magnetite and ilmenite. The dense, uniform black matrix reflects the high pyroxene and hornblende content with very low lighter mineral phases. Near-zero porosity — the result of the tightly interlocked crystalline fabric — makes the stone inherently impermeable and frost-resistant. The stone's mechanical properties place it among the hardest and most durable black granites available from South India.

Color & Character

Khammam Black Granite presents a uniform, deep jet-black surface with a very fine crystalline texture that is essentially invisible to the naked eye. The stone is pure black in all practical terms, with no visible mineral variation, veining, or pattern. On polished surfaces, the black field achieves high reflectivity approaching a mirror finish — the stone's quality visible in the clarity and depth of the polished plane. Distinguished from Absolute Black by its quarry of origin, the stone is otherwise comparable in appearance and performance.

Best Applications

Memorials & Monuments

Khammam Black's consistent jet-black colour, fine grain, and durable polish make it a primary memorial and monument stone, well established in the international memorial market.

Care & Maintenance

Khammam Black Granite requires minimal maintenance due to its near-zero porosity. An impregnating sealer at installation is recommended for kitchen and bathroom use. The polished black surface shows water marks easily — dry promptly after cleaning. Use pH-neutral stone cleaner and avoid abrasive products that could micro-scratch the polished finish. The high-gloss polish is durable under normal conditions.
