About Green

Kuppam Green Granite is quarried near Kuppam town in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, within the Eastern Ghats geological belt. The stone's distinctive blue-green to teal colouring results from a specific combination of chlorite, epidote, and hornblende minerals in the host granitoid intrusive, a formation confined to this area of Andhra Pradesh. The Kuppam quarry zone has supplied export-grade green granite for over two decades. FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva. Origin and specifications verified by Gemarix.

Geological Profile

Density ~2.76 g/cm³
Water Absorption <0.18%
Compressive Strength ~198 MPa
Mohs Hardness 6 – 7

Kuppam Green is classified as a green granite or chlorite-hornblende granitoid. The intense blue-green to teal colouring results from the presence of chlorite, epidote, and chloritised hornblende as major mineral phases within a plagioclase-quartz matrix. The blue character distinguishes Kuppam Green from the yellower-green Hassan Green variety. Accessory magnetite, ilmenite, and pyrite contribute dark inclusions across the surface. Low porosity and high density give the stone good structural and stain-resistance properties.

Color & Character

Kuppam Green Granite presents a deep teal to blue-green matrix with a fine, even granular texture and scattered dark mineral inclusions. The blue-green tone is more saturated and slightly cooler than Hassan Green — giving Kuppam Green a slightly more dramatic, mineral-rich character. On polished surfaces, the green matrix develops an intense, jewel-like reflectivity that amplifies the depth of colour. The surface is relatively uniform, without prominent veining or directional patterning, making it effective in large-format applications.

Care & Maintenance

Kuppam Green Granite has low porosity and good stain resistance. Apply an impregnating sealer at installation for kitchen and bathroom use, refreshing every 18 to 24 months. Avoid acid-based and bleach-based cleaners that may react with the chlorite and epidote mineral phases. Clean with pH-neutral stone cleaner and dry polished surfaces promptly. The polished finish retains the stone's deep green colour under normal conditions.
