Labrador Blue Granite.

Labrador Blue Granite is a dark grey-blue labradorite-rich stone from South India with a distinctive iridescent shimmer — a refined, sophisticated granite that combines a composed dark background with the dynamic optical play of labradorescence.

Labrador Blue Granite slab

About Blue

Labrador Blue Granite is sourced from South India's established labradorite granite quarries in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, where specific Precambrian anorthositic intrusives produce the characteristic dark grey-blue matrix and iridescent shimmer. The stone is processed to gangsaw slabs and calibrated tiles at South India units. FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva. Origin and specifications verified by Gemarix.

Geological Profile

Density ~2.72 g/cm³
Water Absorption <0.20%
Compressive Strength ~192 MPa
Mohs Hardness 6 – 7

Labrador Blue is a coarse-grained anorthositic rock dominated by labradorite plagioclase feldspar with subsidiary dark minerals including hornblende, ilmenite, and pyroxene. The labradorescence — the iridescent blue shimmer — results from optical thin-film interference within the labradorite crystal structure, specifically from nanoscale exsolution lamellae that produce constructive interference for blue wavelengths. The dark grey-blue base colour results from the combination of the labradorite feldspar and dark mineral phases. Low porosity gives the stone good stain resistance.

Color & Character

Labrador Blue Granite presents a dark grey-blue to charcoal matrix with a distributed blue iridescent shimmer that shifts in intensity with viewing angle and light source. The labradorescence appears as broad, planar blue flashes across the coarse feldspar faces — less concentrated than in the finest Blue Pearl varieties but still visually dynamic. The stone's character is composed and sophisticated, with the dark background providing depth and the iridescent shimmer adding a restrained luxury quality. Each slab has a distinct shimmer distribution.

Care & Maintenance

Labrador Blue Granite should be sealed with an impregnating sealer at installation and re-sealed every 18 months for kitchen and bathroom applications. The iridescent shimmer is intrinsic to the mineral structure and does not diminish with normal use. Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner and dry polished surfaces promptly to prevent water marks that can mask the shimmer. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could micro-scratch the polished feldspar surface.
