About Gold

Madurai Gold Granite is quarried near Madurai in Tamil Nadu's established granite zone, where iron-bearing Precambrian intrusives in the Madurai Block of the Southern Granulite Terrain produce the warm amber-gold colouring. The Madurai region has been a significant granite production centre for several decades. The stone is processed to gangsaw slabs and calibrated tiles at Tamil Nadu units for export. FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva. Origin and specifications verified by Gemarix.

Geological Profile

Density ~2.66 g/cm³
Water Absorption <0.22%
Compressive Strength ~175 MPa
Mohs Hardness 6 – 7

Madurai Gold is a medium-to-coarse grained charnockitic granite from the high-grade granulite terrain of Tamil Nadu. The mineralogy is dominated by iron-bearing orthoclase and perthite feldspar in the gold-amber range, with hypersthene (orthopyroxene), quartz, plagioclase, and biotite. The charnockitic affinity — the presence of hypersthene in the granite matrix — reflects the extreme metamorphic conditions under which the precursor rock formed. The warm gold colour of the feldspar derives from elevated iron content. Moderate porosity requires sealing for food-contact applications.

Color & Character

Madurai Gold Granite presents a warm amber to gold matrix with an active pattern of dark grey-black hypersthene-biotite clusters and lighter quartz-plagioclase zones distributed across the surface. The overall composition is warm and rich, with the gold feldspar creating an opulent background for the dark and light mineral bodies. On polished surfaces, the gold feldspar achieves a deep warmth, and the hypersthene crystals may show a subtle metallic lustre distinct from hornblende-dominant golds. The stone's Tamil Nadu origin gives it a specific geological character within the broader Indian gold granite family.

Care & Maintenance

Madurai Gold Granite should be sealed with an impregnating sealer at installation and re-sealed every 12 months in kitchen and bathroom applications. The warm gold matrix benefits from prompt attention to oil and food spills. Clean with pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic cleaners. Polished Madurai Gold maintains its rich amber depth under normal conditions.
