About Blue

Vizag Blue Granite is quarried from the Visakhapatnam (Vizag) district of Andhra Pradesh, within the Eastern Ghats geological belt. The specific combination of blue-grey plagioclase feldspar and warm-toned mafic minerals is characteristic of this regional geological formation. The stone has been in export production for over a decade and is processed to gangsaw slabs and calibrated tiles at Andhra Pradesh units. FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva. Origin and specifications verified by Gemarix.

Geological Profile

Density ~2.70 g/cm³
Water Absorption <0.20%
Compressive Strength ~185 MPa
Mohs Hardness 6 – 7

Vizag Blue is a medium-to-coarse grained mafic granitoid dominated by blue-grey labradorite plagioclase feldspar with hornblende, pyroxene, biotite, and accessory ilmenite. The blue-grey colour of the plagioclase feldspar is the primary colour-determining factor, while warm-toned hornblende and biotite clusters introduce brown-grey warm mineral bodies against the cool blue-grey ground. The subtle contrast between the cool matrix and the warm inclusions gives the stone a visually layered character. Low-moderate porosity gives the stone reasonable stain resistance.

Color & Character

Vizag Blue Granite presents a deep blue-grey to charcoal matrix with warm-toned brown-grey hornblende and biotite inclusions distributed across the surface. The contrast between the cool blue-grey ground and the warmer mineral bodies gives the stone a subtly layered, complex character — neither purely cool nor purely warm, but a refined combination of both tonal qualities. On polished surfaces, the blue-grey matrix achieves a deep reflectivity and the warm inclusions become more visible, enriching the overall composition.

Care & Maintenance

Vizag Blue Granite should be sealed with an impregnating sealer at installation and re-sealed every 18 months in kitchen and bathroom applications. Clean with pH-neutral stone cleaner; the blue-grey polished surface can show water marks — dry promptly after cleaning. Avoid abrasive and acidic cleaners. The polished finish retains the stone's blue-grey character and warm mineral detail under normal conditions.
