About Blue

Volga Blue Granite is sourced from South India's established blue-grey granite quarries in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, where specific medium-mafic Precambrian intrusives produce the characteristic cool blue-grey colouring and subtle mineral shimmer. The stone is processed to gangsaw slabs and calibrated tiles at South India units for export. FOB Mundra / Nhava Sheva. Origin and specifications verified by Gemarix.

Geological Profile

Density ~2.70 g/cm³
Water Absorption <0.22%
Compressive Strength ~185 MPa
Mohs Hardness 6 – 7

Volga Blue is a medium-grained mafic granitoid composed of blue-grey plagioclase feldspar, hornblende, biotite, and quartz, with accessory ilmenite and feldspar phases that produce the stone's subtle mineral shimmer. The cool blue-grey colour of the plagioclase feldspar gives the stone its characteristic tone. The subtle shimmer originates from plagioclase and biotite cleavage planes that reflect light at specific angles — a soft, diffuse iridescence rather than a full labradorescence. Low-moderate porosity gives the stone good stain resistance for most applications.

Color & Character

Volga Blue Granite presents a cool blue-grey to dark slate matrix with a fine, even mineral texture and a subtle, soft iridescent shimmer that adds depth without the dramatic optical play of full labradorescent stones. The shimmer appears as a quiet, distributed luminosity across the polished surface — visible under raking or direct light but not imposing in ambient conditions. The stone's character is composed and understated, lending itself to contemporary interiors where a dark, cool-toned natural stone is required without strong visual drama. Each slab has a consistent, refined character.

Care & Maintenance

Volga Blue Granite should be sealed with an impregnating sealer at installation and re-sealed every 18 months for kitchen and bathroom applications. The subtle mineral shimmer is intrinsic to the feldspar structure and does not diminish with normal cleaning. Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner and dry polished surfaces promptly to prevent water marks. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could micro-scratch the polished surface.
